About Us

We are a community first computer science and STEM outreach program, run through the New Mexico Tech Office of STEM Outreach and Storm Force. We aim to provide comprehensive programs to teach the fundamentals of computer science, STEM, and the concepts of computational thinking to children in Socorro.

Cody Johnston

Senior Instructor

Founder and Senior Instructor, Cody is an SHS Alumni and student at NMT. Cody founded Socorro Codes to address the lack of CS programs in Socorro and across the State. Studying computer science and education, Cody hopes to eventually help fund CS Education at the State and National Levels.

Lucas Ward

Instructor, Project Machinist

Co-Founder, Instructor and Project Machinist, Lucas is a National Guardsman and is a SMAW certified welder. Lucas helped found Socorro Codes to address the lack of CS programs in Socorro and across the State. Lucas is a amateur fabricator and enjoys the mechanical applications of computer science.

Jay Garcia

Senior Curriculum Advisor

Jay is a local New Mexican and is currently a computer science teacher at Albuquerque Academy. A professional Web Developer and, automotive restorer, Jay graduated from NMT with a degree in computer science. Jay is an award winning teacher and has coached state finalists for The Supercomputing Challenge and Science Olympiad. Jay is a passionate teacher who believes in collaborative and project based learning and the importance of CS in this rapidly developing educational environment.

Rio Sessions

Logistics Specialist

Rio is an SHS Alumni and physics student at NMT. Supercomputing Challenge finalist, and Talented Thespian, Rio works in the NMT Stem Outreach Department to organize and run events such as Science Olympiad and State Science Fair.

Elias Zheng

Curriculum Advisor

Elias is an SHS alumni and is currently studying computer science at the University of Arizona. Elias assists in developing, reviewing, and advising the Socorro Codes curriculum. Elias worked as an intern with the Institute for Complex Additive Systems Analysist where he studies network theory.
